ABOUT ME

Hello!

I'm Ms. Ruth. I was born in Orange County, Ca., where I spent 11 years of my life growing up until I moved to Riverside, Ca. and have been there ever since. After graduating High School, I attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science with a minor in Biology and Poultry Management. After I graduated, I interned at International Bird Rescue and Pacific Wildlife Care to rehabilitate wildlife and release them back into their natural habitat. I also worked at a Veterinary Clinic before realizing that I wanted to go back to school for teaching. I went back to Cal Poly, SLO to receive my credentials in Agriculture Education and am currently enrolled in their Master of Ag. Education program.

My first year teaching was at San Jacinto High School as the Agriculture Biology teacher. My class was focused on Biology, but it also incorporated Future Farmers of America, Supervised Agriculture Experiences, and Community Service. This allowed students to create projects, raise animals for fairs, and gain leadership skills during conference workshops. As I was finishing up my first year, I came across High Tech High and just felt I needed to be a part of this amazing charter school. I was fortunate enough to teach my second year as a Biology teacher at High Tech High Chula Vista. Unfortunately, due to COVID, I returned home to be with my family. During my time in Riverside, I worked as the Humane Educator at a non-profit adoption center educating the public about the center as well as creating educational programs for kids ages 6-13. I am really excited to be in San Diego once again and can't wait to see High Tech Middle student projects come to life!

On my spare time, I am focused on raising my Australian Cattle Dog. Being a single mother of a fur baby that has non-stop energy is a lot of work, but will be worth it at the end because she will be my hiking, running, camping, and swimming buddy! I also enjoy watching movies with my dog and tuxedo cat, looking for new nature trails to explore, and exercising.
